What to look for in a lash extension training course

Eyelash extension is a pretty precise discipline. It takes patience and attention to detail to make sure you’re able to give your clients beautiful, long lashes that will last. So, if you’re considering launching your career in this industry, you want to make sure you’re investing in the best training available to you.

But, with so many beauty schools and training courses available – how do you choose the right one?

Besides making sure the course you’re choosing will teach you the right skills to succeed in the industry, here’s what we think you should look out for to get on the road to success:

1. How long the trainers have been in the industry

You want to get trained by experienced practitioners; someone who’s been doing lash extensions for several years. This way they’ll be able to teach you not only the ‘best practice’ as set out by the industry but also the little tips and tricks that will help you when things get a little tricky. After all, not all lashes are made equal and it’s good to learn how to manage these differences from someone who’s had experience with it.

2. How much experience they have training others

While having someone who is experienced in eyelash extensions is critical, you also want your trainer to have experience teaching others. The longer your trainer has been teaching can give you more confidence that they’re able to pass on their expertise and help you learn.

3. Practicing what they teach

As well as years of experience training others, you also want to make sure the people training you are still doing lash extensions on clients themselves. This usually means they’re up to speed with the latest trends and industry practices, and know how to apply them in real life.

4. Check their reviews

Any organisation that gets good reviews will share these in their marketing. So, have a dig around their website, brochures or social media accounts to see what their customers are saying. If they’re good, they should be easy to find. It’s even better if you can find reviews related to the trainer who will be teaching your course, as this will help back up their experience, and how well they can teach.

5. Course accreditations or certifications

While the accreditation or certification of a course won’t determine whether you will or won’t get a job as an eyelash extension artist, courses that are accredited have to meet minimum requirements as set by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA). As a student of an accredited course, you can be assured you’ll be learning the skills required to succeed in this industry and be recognised as such by employers.

6. Meet your trainers before deciding

If you have questions or concerns about the course, or what you’ll be learning, the organisation or trainers should be happy to chat face-to-face, over the phone, or even video chat, to help give you the answers you’re looking for. Ideally, your trainers will want to make sure you’re comfortable and excited about joining the course, so you’re able to get the most out of it.
