6 tips for getting eyelash extensions for your wedding day

Have your eyes shine on your wedding day with lash extensions

You’ve picked the date, the venue, your bridesmaids, your dress, and your makeup. You know it’s going to be an emotional day and the last thing you want to worry about is having your fake lashes slip off, so you decide to opt for eyelash extensions instead.

This is a great option because you can still have long, luxurious lashes without worrying about losing them as the busy day goes on. Best of all, you’ll have beautiful lashes for your honeymoon as well.

If it’s your first time getting eyelash extensions, you may be wondering when the best time is to get them done and how to care for them. We’ve got you covered. Here are six things you need to know:

  1. Start early

Eyelash extensions may seem like a very small part of your wedding planning but it’s important to plan early. This is because you need to find a reputable lash technician and have enough time to get a patch test done. We recommend researching lash technicians far in advance and going with someone who has good reviews and strong credentials, such as our nationally accredited eyelash extension training.

After finding your perfect technician, you should arrange to have a patch test done. This should be done at least 48 to 72 hours before application and is a must for everyone, especially if you’ve never had eyelash extensions applied before.

Don’t neglect the patch test because if you react to the glue, you’ll end up with red, puffy eyes, which you definitely don’t want for your wedding day!

  1. Time your lash extension appointment right

Ideally, you want to have your lash extensions applied two to three days before your wedding day. This will give you time to get used to your new lashes, plus they will still look freshly done on the big day. Application time can take two to three hours so it’s also a great time to unwind amidst all the wedding planning stress!

If you’re new to eyelash extensions, have them done earlier as a trial run. After all, you might not like them and may prefer to remove them before your wedding day.

  1. Select the right extensions for your look

Depending on the look you’re going for, there are lots of different styles to choose from. A classic set is timeless but, if you’re looking for something more dramatic, you could opt for a cat-eye look or a full doll eye look. The lash material is also something to consider. This is another reason why it’s important to start the process early, as you’ll be working closely with your lash artist to find what works best for you and the look you want for your big day.

  1. Wearing make-up

It’s perfectly fine to wear make-up with your eyelash extensions but try to avoid wearing mascara, as this can damage them and be tricky to remove. If you’re getting your make-up done professionally, let the make-up artist know, so they’ll be careful when applying make-up to your eye area. If possible, have your eyelash extensions done before your bridal make-up trial as this can change your overall look.

  1. Maintaining your lashes for your wedding day and beyond

Eyelash extensions are great because, if they’re looked after properly, they can last up to three weeks before you need to go back in for an in-fill appointment.

After your extensions are applied, you must keep them dry for 12 to 24 hours, as the glue will need to set and hold onto your natural lashes. Avoid activities and environments that may cause you to sweat, such as saunas, swimming pools and the sun.

It’s also important to not use facial oils or heavy moisturisers around your eye area, as this breaks down the glue bonds and causes the lash extensions to fall off sooner. Also make sure you gently brush your lashes with a spooly to keep them clean and maintain their desirable fan shape.

  1. Removing your lashes

If you’d like to have your lashes removed after your wedding day, you have two options: get them professionally removed or let your lash extensions fall out naturally as your natural lashes grow.

You shouldn’t try to remove them yourself by plucking, as this will damage your natural lashes and could cause bald spots. Waiting for eyelash extensions to drop can take anywhere from three to eight weeks, so we highly recommend getting your lashes removed professionally if you’d like them off sooner.
